Library

Our school library is a vital hub for learning and literacy. The library aims to support teaching and learning, through the provision of quality literature and resources. One of our key goals is to promote a love and appreciation of reading for enjoyment. The library is open during break times for students and aims to be a welcoming and inclusive space for all students to enjoy.

Opening hours

The library is open to students during recess and lunch breaks daily.

Resources

• There are laptops and iPads available for students to use for their school work.
• Printing and photocopying is available for all students at no cost (black and white printing).
• Chess and checkers kits are available to borrow
• Micro:bit kits (coding kits for beginners) are available to borrow
• Chess and checkers and card games are available to use during breaks
• Mindful colouring in is available during breaks

Features

• The podcast studio features professional podcast recording equipment with the technology and programs to edit and mix podcasts. It is available to be booked by students to work on recording projects.
• The fiction collection has been organised by genre to make the selection process for students easier.
• The non-fiction collection has a large range of resources to support students with research for their general interests or for school tasks.
• Student requests for books or other resources are always welcome and encouraged.

Stage 4 Reading Program

We're committed to boosting reading literacy. We use the Renaissance Reading program with all Stage 4 students to help them develop their reading skills and foster a love for reading. As part of the program, students are provided with opportunities for reading, personalised book selections and the time to complete reading tests to monitor their reading progress over the course of the year. Students are provided with a personalised reading level based on their test and are supported in choosing books at their level of understanding.

Key events

• The Premier’s Reading Challenge runs annually where students from Years 7-10 are invited to read 20 books to challenge themselves
• Book Week runs annually with events and activities in the library to celebrate
• Write a book in a day challenge
• Author visits. We have previously had author visits from many award-winning Australian authors like Sarah Ayoub, Will Kostakis, Tobias Madden and Phillip Gwynne.
